Malicious emails designed to look like Federal Trade Commission (FTC) notifications about consumer complaints are being sent to unsuspecting business owners, the Better Business Bureau is warning. Victims are told that the FTC has launched a formal investigation because of a complaint lodged against them. They then are guided to click a link to FTC's site, which will instead download data-stealing malware. On Monday, the FTC alerted small businesses about the bogus emails, explaining they contain "notification of consumer complaint" in the subject line. According to the BBB, the malware is capable of scanning compromised computers for personal and banking information.
