Secure by design AI pushed by US government

U.S. National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross has stressed the Trump administration's move to ensure AI's secure by design nature, as the country advances innovation in the technology, reports Cybersecurity Dive.

"What we are working for in my lane is to ensure that the technical security is not seen as a barrier to that innovation, but is seen as a fundamental piece of the ability to scale it and move it as quickly as possible," Cairncross said. The government plans to collaborate with private companies, which will share threat information, while federal agencies handle offensive cyber actions. Partnerships with industry and local governments will also support testing and improving security technologies.

The administration has also made changes in policy direction, including the plan for a group for sharing information among AI companies to help them respond to threats and the removal of some earlier AI-related security policies from the previous administration that were deemed limiting. It is also working to help U.S. AI companies compete internationally, especially with China.
