Russia-Ukraine war advancing threat intelligence
National Security Agency Cybersecurity Director Rob Joyce said that the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has emphasized the importance of rapid and proactive cyber threat intelligence with critical infrastructure and industry, CyberScoop reports.
While protecting sources and methods has been integral to the NSA's mission, such insights could only gain value if they are operationalized, said Joyce at the Trellix Cybersecurity Summit.
"We can make available the insights about what we know without putting at risk how we know it. Thats really an inflection point that lets us get to more prolific, more extensive, and more closely sharing for operational outcome," Joyce said.
The U.S. has strengthened threat intelligence measures even before Ukraine was invaded by Russia in February. Further information sharing was also conducted by the NSA, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and the FBI in its joint warning regarding a state-sponsored threat operation's use of the custom data exfiltration tool dubbed CovalentStealer and the open-source toolkit Impacket in compromising an industrial base organization.
