Spyware that was recently found to have infiltrated Vietnam Airlines as well as two airport information systems has also embedded itself in the website operations of various Vietnamese institutions, warned cybersecurity firm Bkav, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Disguised as anti-virus software, the malware collects passwords and enables remote control of compromised computers. Infected parties include government agencies, corporations, banks, research facilities and universities, the report continued.
On July 29, hackers doxxed the account information of more than 400,000 Vietnam Airlines members, while taking over flight information and loudspeaker systems at two major Vietnamese airports. The adversaries claimed to be the Chinese hacker group 1937CN Team, and may have acted due to an ongoing territorial dispute with Vietnam and the Philippines over the South China Sea.
