Report: Cyberattacks primarily aimed at US

United States of America waving flag with many folds

GBHackers News reports that the U.S. was targeted by 646 cyberattacks between 2024 and 2025, or 44% of all reported intrusions.

Such a figure was significantly ahead of the UK, Russia, and Canada, which were the next most targeted nations, while fewer incidents in Africa, Asia, and Latin America may be due to underreporting, according to data from hosting.com. Financially motivated attacks accounted for the bulk of cyber incidents, while public administration was the most targeted industry, followed by the healthcare and social assistance, finance and insurance, and information sectors.

Although global cybercrime costs are expected to increase from $10.5 trillion this year to $15.63 trillion in 2029 amid the increasing exploitation of AI, cybersecurity defenses continue to lag. Cybersecurity tech has been completely absent across 20% of small and medium-sized businesses, even if cyberattacks have successfully compromised 59% of organizations during the past year.
