Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) is planning to introduce a federal revenge porn bill in late June that would outlaw non-consensual pornography on a national level, a source told SCMagazine.com.
Speier originally intended to introduce her bill, known as the Intimate Privacy Protection Act, during the summer of 2015, but, according to the source, she held off in order to obtain bipartisan support. The source cited the fractious climate in Congress, saying support from both sides of the aisle would be needed to get anything through that legislative body.
As of right now, 31 states and the District of Columbia have passed anti-revenge porn legislation and this number is expected to rise in the coming months since nine more states have bills in the works. States considering similar bills are Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Rhode Island and South Carolina.
