Reddit announced the winners of its new charity competition that will have the company giving away 10 percent of its 2014 gross ad revenue to 10 charities chosen by Reddit users.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) received the highest number votes, followed by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, and Doctors Without Borders, USA. More than 250,000 votes were cast by more than 80,000 voters.
The Tor Project, Free Software Foundation and Wikimedia Foundation also will be awarded prize money.
Regardless of ranking in the top 10, the charities will each receive $82,765.95. In total, Reddit will donate $827,659.49.
Any U.S.-based charity registered with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) was eligible in the competition. The week-long contest garnered votes for more than 8,000 charities.
