A new report from Check Point reveals that while global cyberattack volumes plateaued in September, ransomware incidents surged by 46% and threats tied to generative AI grew sharply, underscoring an evolving cyber risk landscape, according to Industrial Cyber.

Organizations faced an average of 1,900 weekly attacks, slightly lower month-over-month but up from last year, highlighting how threat actors are refining tactics rather than increasing sheer volume. The education sector remained the most targeted, followed by telecommunications and government.

North America saw the sharpest regional increase, while Africa remained the most attacked overall. Check Point warned that 91% of organizations using GenAI faced potential data leakage, with 1 in 54 enterprise prompts exposing sensitive information.

The report also identified Qilin, Play, and Akira as leading ransomware groups exploiting unpatched vulnerabilities and expanding RaaS operations. Researchers stressed that these developments demand stronger governance, zero-trust defenses, and tighter data controls as GenAI integration accelerates.
