Ransomware-hit Greek natural gas provider nixes negotiations with attackers

Despite confirming being hit by a ransomware attack, Greek natural gas operator and distributor DESFA rejected entering negotiations with its attackers, with the Ragnar Locker ransomware group, which admitted responsibility for the attack, including the organization to its leak site on Friday, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future. DESFA announced on Saturday that some of its systems have been disrupted by the ransomware attack against its IT infrastructure, with some files and directories possibly exposed. However, it emphasized that the operation of the National Natural Gas System has remained normal. "The management of the NNGS continues to operate smoothly and DESFA continues to supply natural gas to all entry and exit points of the country safely and adequately," said DESFA. The incident against DESFA comes after U.K. water supplier South Staffordshire confirmed being hit by a ransomware attack last week. Industrial operations are expected to be continuously targeted by ransomware gangs in the third quarter, according to Dragos.
