Lumen’s proactive cloud defense launched on AWS Marketplace

Lumen Technologies has launched a new proactive security service, Lumen Defender Managed Rules, directly integrating its extensive threat intelligence into the AWS Network Firewall to help cloud customers block attacks earlier in the threat lifecycle, reports The Fast Mode.

The service, now available in the AWS Marketplace, leverages real-time data from Lumen's Black Lotus Labs, which analyzes over 200 billion daily NetFlow sessions from its global IP backbone to identify malicious infrastructure like botnets and malware before they target end customers. According to Martin Nystrom, Vice President of Black Lotus Labs, this provides an "upstream view into malicious infrastructure," enabling earlier detection and disruption directly at the network edge within AWS environments.

The managed rule group is designed to shift organizations from reactive to proactive defense by delivering timely, high-fidelity intelligence with contextual insights that minimize false positives. Customers can subscribe and automatically apply the continuously updated rules via the AWS console, eliminating the need for additional infrastructure. This offering aims to address the critical gap where traditional security tools lack external visibility, often detecting threats only after a network has been breached.
