Plankey nominated once again for CISA director post

The White House has announced the renomination of Sean Plankey, who is currently a senior advisor at the Coast Guard, as the director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency after his initial nomination stalled in the Senate before the end of last year, Nextgov/FCW reports.

After being held by Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., due to issues surrounding the Department of Homeland Security's Coast Guard cutter contract with Florida-based Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Plankey's nomination could still hit a snag as Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., declared that he would block all Homeland Security nominees should DHS Secretary Kristi Noem refuse to face the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Such a development comes amid significant layoffs at CISA, which has not had a permanent leader for a year. If confirmed, Plankey would also have to deal with cybersecurity threats associated with the mid-term elections.
