Cybernews reports that New York-based The Thayer Hotel, which is in proximity to the West Point Military Academy, had information from more than 33,000 individuals stolen following a cyberattack in late September.Infiltration of The Thayer Hotel's systems allowed threat actors to pilfer individuals' usernames and IDs, including driver's licenses, passports, or state ID card numbers, while a limited number also had their Social Security numbers compromised, according to the historic hotel's investigation conducted alongside external cybersecurity experts. All individuals affected by the data breach have been given free identity theft protection services for a year. Despite the lack of evidence suggesting abuse of the exfiltrated information, threat actors could harness the data to facilitate identity theft attacks, which could have significant implications considering that the clientele of The Thayer Hotel mostly consists of the military and their family members. Highly convincing phishing intrusions and malware attacks could also be launched using the stolen data.
