Odyssey Stealer attacks against macOS escalate

Intrusions with the Odyssey Stealer malware against macOS systems worldwide have swelled over the past few days, with threat actors mostly targeting Apple computers in the U.S., France, and Spain, Cyber Security News reports.

Odyssey Stealer which has since impacted Apple computers in the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, Brazil, India, and other Asian and African countries has been deployed via seemingly legitimate software updates, cracked tools, and fraudulent apps to compromise browser-stored information and the macOS Keychain, according to a Moonlock Lab analysis. Automation has been leveraged by Odyssey to ensure a unique digital fingerprint for every infection that hinders detection by antivirus systems.

Aside from continuously modifying its code structure to evade standard blocklists, Odyssey also uses multiple unique SHA256 hashes that further complicate mitigation. With threat actors suspected of harnessing automated builders to generate numerous undetectable malware variants, users have been urged to be wary of similar intrusions.
