ODNI launches year-long cybersecurity modernization effort

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence has released an unclassified summary of its year-long cybersecurity and technology modernization initiative under DNI Tulsi Gabbard, citing expanded threat hunting automation across intelligence community networks, a new zero-trust strategy shifting to a data-centric security model, and a shared repository of apps that have undergone cybersecurity review to save time and money, according to CyberScoop.

Gabbard said the effort represents the largest IC-wide technology investment and modernization effort in history, delivering stronger defenses and greater efficiency. The ODNI is developing policy frameworks, governance, and standards to accelerate AI adoption for cybersecurity. The National Counterintelligence and Security Center was directed to proactively combat foreign intelligence actors seeking to engage in cyber-attacks against U.S. interests.

The initiatives reflect goals of the recent national cyber strategy, including better protection of federal networks, advancing AI for defensive purposes, and going on offense against adversaries. Gabbard said protecting sensitive information while ensuring intelligence professionals have the tools they need is essential to national security.
