NowSecure launches new tool to reveal hidden AI in third-party mobile apps

As reported by Silicon Angle, NowSecure Inc. has announced its new Mobile App Risk Intelligence (MARI) capabilities, designed to provide enterprises with evidence-based visibility into third-party mobile applications. This comes as hidden artificial intelligence features, opaque code, and unseen data flows are creating a growing governance gap.

The MARI capabilities aim to address the challenge of employees adopting mobile apps faster than security teams can evaluate them. Many of these apps contain AI components, third-party services, and cross-border data flows that traditional review methods often miss. NowSecure reported testing 50,000 mobile apps, finding that 53% contain AI components, many of which are not visible through conventional app review processes. This lack of visibility increases the likelihood of unauthorized data sharing and policy violations.

MARI expands NowSecure's third-party app governance support by detecting embedded AI and large language model components, providing country-level visibility into app data flows, and inventorying third-party code. The tool also offers plain-language summaries connecting technical findings to business impact and allows for export of findings to support audit and compliance workflows. Policy-based rules can automate app review decisions at scale, benefiting organizations that need to validate and secure their own apps as well as third-party ones.
