New US cyber strategy draws support from industry experts

CyberScoop reports that the Trump administration's National Cyber Strategy has been noted by cybersecurity experts to have already brought about positive changes just two weeks after its launch.

During the RSAC 2026 Conference, David Lashway, partner and global leader of cybersecurity and national security at Sidley Austin, said the federal government is in a strong position to go beyond deterrence and take action thanks to the newly launched strategy.

"We are going to take offensive and defensive action with the most powerful cyber capability that the world's ever seen, and hopefully will ever know," he added.

The primary distinction between the most recent federal cyber policy and what administrations have demanded over the past 10 years, according to Lashway, is the scope of the government's response.

On the other hand, Palo Alto Networks Chief Security Intelligence Officer Wendi Whitmore noted increased private sector collaboration in the wake of the strategy's release.

"There is certainly a tremendous shift in the level of discussion that we get from the government today. It's a very proactive, kind of muscular dialogue that's different from what I've previously seen," Whitmore added.
