New $1M cybersecurity grant unveiled by OpenAI

ChatGPT-developer OpenAI has introduced a new $1 million cybersecurity grant program that seeks to strengthen artificial intelligence-driven cybersecurity, reports SecurityWeek. Awards for projects honing in on defensive generative AI use are expected to be given out in the form of direct funding or API credits in increments of $10,000, according to OpenAI, which noted that the program also aims to foster the development of AI model cybersecurity quantification. Included in the projects OpenAI eyes for funding are those that facilitate social engineering tactic detection and mitigation, cyber defender data collection and labeling for defensive cyber agent training, and source code security analysis. "Our goal is to work with defenders across the globe to change the power dynamics of cybersecurity through the application of AI and the coordination of like-minded individuals working for our collective safety," said OpenAI, which added that no offensive security projects will be considered for the program yet.
