MyFreeCams.com’s cyber hygiene leaves models at risk

Share

Adult webcam site MyFreeCams.com is leaving its users' accounts vulnerable to physical and cyber attacks due to its lack of cybersecurity hygiene, a report in Vice's Motherboard said.

The adult site sends forgotten passwords in plain text, doesn't allow the use of special characters in passwords, and even publishes portions of passwords on receipts for tokens purchased on the site.

Poor security could also present physical risks to the site's models - if a compromised account reveals their real names and/or locations it could increased the chances that they'll be stalked or harassed.

Motherboard recently reported that the site undermines strong passwords created by users by not recognizing the differences in letter cases and omitting special characters.

Even after that report, MyFreeCams.com reportedly doesn't accept passwords with special characters thereby forcing users to create weaker passwords using only letters and numbers.
