Microsoft's official X account was briefly compromised and used to promote a cryptocurrency scam involving a token named $CLIPPY, according to a recent report by Tech Radar.

Cybercriminals gained unauthorized access to Microsoft's X account, using it to retweet posts promoting the $CLIPPY cryptocurrency token. The attackers also posted fake statements and an apology, attempting to legitimize the scam and mislead users. The scam leveraged the nostalgic internet meme of Microsoft's former virtual assistant, Clippy. After Microsoft confirmed the unauthorized access and removed the fraudulent posts, securing the account, the attackers' associated accounts were disabled. However, researchers found other accounts still promoting the $CLIPPY token, suggesting ongoing efforts to exploit the scam. Microsoft has stated it is investigating the incident further.
