Malware detection challenges increase

Seventy-eight of all malware distributed through encrypted connections were evasive zero-days that could evade primary defenses, according to TechRadar. The report from WatchGuard Technologies also revealed that detected network attacks have reached their peak in the first quarter of 2022, recording a 39% increase, compared with the last quarter of 2021. Moreover, the number of advanced threats have increased by 33%. The findings should prompt organizations to implement a unified security method, said WatchGuard Chief Security Officer Corey Nachreiner. "With the highest level of zero-day threats we’ve ever recorded and an attack surface that extends well beyond the network perimeter to IoT, home networks and mobile devices, companies need to adopt a true unified security approach that can adapt quickly and efficiently to the growing threat landscape," Nachreiner said, adding that organizations should also ensure the implementation of regular systems patching and updating so as to better protect themselves from attackers.
