Majority of enterprises at risk from cyberattack, RSA survey

Enterprises procuring detection and response technologies are at an advantage in fending off cyber incidents over those investing in perimeter-based solutions, according to a new study from RSA, the security division of EMC.

Just as it found last year, the second annual RSA Cybersecurity Poverty Index found that three-quarters of respondents noted a significant cybersecurity risk exposure. Incident response (IR) capabilities are particularly underdeveloped, the survey found, with nearly half of enterprises saying vital IR capabilities were ad hoc or non-existent.

"This second round of cybersecurity research provides tangible evidence that organizations of all sizes...feel unprepared for the threats they are facing," Amit Yoran, president of RSA, said in a statement. "We need to...focus on more than just prevention – to develop a strategy that emphasizes detection and response."

Organizations, he added, must put agendas in place, forge comprehensive strategies and prepare for a breach before one happens.
