Seth Nolan McDonagh,18, was sentenced, on Friday, to 240 hours of community service for his part in one of the biggest cyber attacks in history.”
In 2013 McDonagh, a.k.a., “Narko,” helped launch a series of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against anti-DDoS specialist Cloudflare and anti-junk mail organization Spamhaus that slowed the internet around the world, according to the Daily Mail.
Once the teen was arrested, authorities found £70,000 (about $108,430) in his bank account and 1,000 credit card numbers from German financial institutions, according to the BBC.
McDonagh pleaded guilty to two counts of unauthorized modification of computer material, one count of possessing articles for fraud, one count of transferring criminal property and one count possession of 924 indecent photos of children. Citing McDonagh's young age and mental illness the judge opted for community service rather than jail time.
