Itron discloses cyberattack after unauthorized third party accessed internal systems

Per Bleeping Computer, utility technology company Itron, Inc. has revealed that a cyberattack resulted in unauthorized access to some of its internal systems. The company detected the activity last month and immediately enacted its cybersecurity response plan.

Itron, a Washington-based public company serving 7,700 customers in 100 countries with products for energy and water resource management, discovered the breach on April 13, 2026. Upon detection, the company notified law enforcement and engaged external cybersecurity advisors to investigate and contain the incident. Itron has stated that the unauthorized activity has been blocked and no follow-up activity has been observed. Business operations experienced no material disruption, and the company does not anticipate any significant subsequent impact. Itron also confirmed that customer systems were not affected.

The investigation into the full scope and impact of the breach is ongoing. No ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
