The Israel Police Cyber Crimes Unit arrested seven former employees of Leumi Card Ltd., for threatening to expose credit card information if they weren't paid millions of shekels.
Thai police picked up the eighth member of the gang, the ringleader, at his home in Thailand. Authorities began investigating the case two weeks ago, according to a report in the Jerusalem Post, after the ringleader, Eliran Rosnis contacted Leumi, a card issuer for one of Israel's largest banks, with demands for a payoff. If Leumi didn't pay, he said, he would sell information on millions of credit cards to the highest bidder.
Rosnis later told police that he had copied the card information — which included names, account numbers, and the numbers of government-issued IDs.
The others arrested were named as Avraham David, Asaf Mor, Moti Alon, Ziv Derin and Elad Aboulafia.
