Iranian hackers take over IDF Twitter account

Share

Israeli security officials announced this weekend that Iranian hackers targeted and briefly took over the country's defense forces' Twitter account during Israel's most recent military operation in Gaza.

The attack on the Israeli Defense Forces' Twitter account coordinated with other attacks on civilian websites and systems, according to The Times of Israel. None of the efforts resulted in damage to critical systems.

An earlier July attack on the IDF's Twitter account allowed hackers to send a fake tweet about a rocket striking an Israeli nuclear reactor.

The Israeli operation in Gaza, Operation Protective Edge, prompted Hamas hackers to take over satellite television channels in July. The group then televised messages, including one that warned Israelis to prepare for a “drawn-out stay in bomb shelters.”
