Intellexa founder sentenced to 8 years in Greece for spyware violations

Spyware In Your Data

Coverage from TechCrunch indicates that a Greek court has sentenced Tal Dilian, the founder of spyware maker Intellexa, to eight years in prison for illegal wiretapping and privacy violations. This marks a significant legal precedent for the spyware industry.

Dilian and three other Intellexa executives were convicted in connection with a scandal involving the alleged use of Intellexa's Predator spyware by the Greek government to target politicians, journalists, businesspeople, and military officials. The court also sentenced Dilian's business partner, Sara Aleksandra Fayssal Hamou, former deputy administrator Felix Bitzios, and associate Yiannis Lavranos.

The U.S. government previously sanctioned Intellexa, its linked companies, Dilian, and Hamou in 2024 for developing Predator spyware used against Americans, including government officials and journalists.
