Indiana Housing Authority compromised by ransomware attack

Share

The Indiana Housing Authority was hit by a ransomware attack earlier this month, which has prompted delayed rent payments via the Housing Choice Voucher Program, Government Technology reports. Investigation into the incident has already been underway, with the IHA reassuring that tenants could not be evicted as a result of the disrupted payments. "We have been working closely alongside our internal IT teams and external IT consultants, and we have sought the help of forensics experts to help us address this issue. IHA has also engaged law enforcement, who are working to identify those involved," said the IHA in a statement sent to local news station WISH-TV. Meanwhile, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett has called on the IHA to bolster cybersecurity defenses following the ransomware attack. "When we first learned about the breach, we contacted IHA and made sure they were ramping up and scaling up the technological expertise that they need to protect the data that may be subject to compromise," said Hogsett.
