The competitive landscape for verifiable digital credentials is accelerating as major technology firms deploy new solutions, Biometric Update reports.

IBM has launched its Verify Digital Credentials software, a standards-based platform designed to issue and authenticate secure digital documents. According to IBM, this technology helps organizations mitigate the risk and impact of data breaches by eliminating centralized data repositories. The software employs established open standards, enabling credentials to be stored on a users personal device and shared with selective disclosure to protect privacy. It is marketed as a scalable, containerized solution for academic records, professional licenses, and government documents.

Simultaneously, decentralized identity provider Turing Space is partnering with IOTAs blockchain to enhance its own offering. Turing Space aims to drastically reduce the cost and time of verification through IOTAs low-fee infrastructure, with its CTO Henry Hang stating the model allows for affordable, large-scale enterprise issuance. Industry advocates, like SpruceID's Wayne Chang, assert these verifiable credentials are becoming a foundational element of global digital public infrastructure.
