Google has announced the discontinuation Dark Web Report feature on Feb. 16, 2026, less than two years after its launch, according to 9to5Google.

The tool, which scanned dark web for users' email addresses, will stop performing scans on Jan. 15, 2026, and all user data will be deleted when the service ends. Introduced in July 2024, the tool alerted users if their email accounts appeared on dark web site, a section of the internet often associated with illegal activity. Google cited user feedback indicating that the feature "didnt provide helpful next steps" and said it will instead focus on tools that offer clearer guidance for protecting information.

Users are encouraged to use alternatives like Security Checkup, passkeys, Authentication Tools through the Google Safety Center, Password Checkup, and Password Manager to strengthen account security. Google also assured users that it will continue tracking and defending against online threats, including those from the dark web.
