The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Julie Brill will join the law firm Hogan Lovells as a partner and co-director of the privacy and cybersecurity practice after she leaves her post as an FTC commissioner March 31.
Brill, who was appointed to the FTC by President Obama and confirmed in 2010, became a prominent and outspoken proponent of online privacy and security during her tenure at the commission.
After a stint as an associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York, Brill spent 20 years as an assistant attorney general in North Carolina and in Vermont before joining the FTC. She also was a key antitrust enforcer at the commission. In her new position, Brill will succeed the firm's co-director and founding partner Christopher Wolf, who, according to a release, praised her “keen intelligence and reservoir of knowledge about privacy and data security law” as well as “her commitment to consumer privacy.”
