Authorities have arrested five people in the U.K. suspected of using Remote Access Trojans (RATs) to take over victims' computers and steal information from them.
In an international effort, led by the U.K.'s National Crime Agency (NCA) and including members of Regional Organised Crime Units (ROCUs), suspects were arrested in a series of raids over a number of days.
Similar raids have nabbed 11 additional suspects in other countries including France, Norway and Romania.
In the U.K., law enforcement officials also executed a search warrant on a 19-year-old man and brought him in for questioning. The NCA is warning users to protect themselves by not clicking on links or opening files from unknown senders. RATs give attackers the ability to control computers and steal information remotely.
