Coverage from Tech Radar indicates that scammers are actively exploiting the hype surrounding the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Mexico, the US, and Canada. These malicious actors are employing various tactics to defraud unsuspecting fans and businesses, as analyzed by Kaspersky researchers.

Cybercriminals are using fake ticketing, accommodation, and transportation apps to trick fans into divulging login credentials or losing money. The dark web is also being used to offer fraudulent "discounted" travel and match tickets. Beyond individual fans, businesses are being targeted with fake airline partnership offers, requiring upfront payments for non-existent opportunities.

Kaspersky experts urge fans to exclusively use official platforms for purchases and to verify website authenticity before sharing personal data. For businesses, recommendations include securing corporate email, training staff on phishing awareness, and implementing robust cybersecurity solutions to mitigate these evolving threats.
