Everest ransomware group claims ASUS data breach, demands response

The Everest ransomware group has claimed to have breached ASUS, a major global hardware and electronics company, alleging possession of over 1 TB of stolen data including camera source code, according to a recent report by HackRead.

The group posted their claim on a dark web leak site, specifying that the stolen data includes proprietary firmware or software related to cameras in ASUS devices. They have issued a 21-hour deadline for ASUS to contact them via Qtox, an encrypted messaging platform. The ransom amount has not been disclosed, and the exact nature of the compromised data remains unconfirmed. This alleged incident follows recent claims by Everest against organizations like Under Armour, Petrobras and Iberia airline, which involved user data and internal documentation. ASUS has not yet confirmed or denied the breach, and this would represent a significant compromise for the company, which was previously targeted in 2019 with the ShadowHammer attack.

If verified, this incident highlights the persistent threat of ransomware attacks against major technology manufacturers and the potential for significant intellectual property theft.
