Europol and FireEye join forces to fight cybercrime

Share

Europol announced on Monday that its European Cybercrime Center (EC3) has joined forces with the security firm FireEye.

According to a release, EC3 and FireEye recently concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and will share knowledge and expertise on cybercrime in order to improve detection and better monitor trends.

“It's a great example of global partnerships that can be put in place between businesses and law enforcement to help bring cases to closure and help slow down attacks,” Tony Cole, vice president and global government CTO at FireEye, told SCMagazine.com.

Cole said FireEye could be called on at any moment to instantly respond to cyberattacks, as well as to assist in the sharing of information between European and American law enforcement agencies.

One goal of the alliance is to help prevent and mitigate large scale attacks from nation-state actors and large criminal organizations, Cole added.
