ENISA updates international strategy to bolster EU cybersecurity ecosystem

The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) has released an updated international strategy aimed at reinforcing the EU’s cybersecurity ecosystem and strengthening cooperation beyond Europe’s borders. The revised strategy aligns ENISA's global engagement with the European Union’s international cybersecurity policies, core values, and long-term objectives, as reported by The Cyber Express.

ENISA's primary goal remains to elevate cybersecurity levels across the EU. International cooperation is pursued strategically, focusing on areas that offer tangible benefits to EU Member States and enhance Europe's overall resilience. The agency will engage with international partners, including Ukraine and the United States, through tailored working arrangements for capacity-building and best practice exchange. ENISA will also support the European Commission and the European External Action Service in EU cyber dialogues with partners like Japan and the United Kingdom, providing technical expertise. Furthermore, support for EU candidate countries in the Western Balkans will expand from 2026, with the extension of ENISA frameworks and tools for strengthening national capabilities.

The updated strategy also operationalizes the EU Cybersecurity Reserve under the 2025 EU Cyber Solidarity Act, extending coordinated response mechanisms to associated third countries like Moldova. ENISA will continue contributing to the G7 Cybersecurity Working Group, offering EU-level expertise on shared cyber threats. This strategic alignment and expanded cooperation aim to create a more robust and interconnected global cybersecurity landscape, ensuring that challenges are addressed collaboratively and effectively.
