A California judge ordered Ellen Pao to pay Kleiner Perkins $275,996.93 for its successful gender discrimination case win against the former employee.
Pao sued the company in 2012 under allegations that she wasn't promoted because of her gender, Ars Technica reported. She lost the suit in March, and Kleiner Perkins requested $972,814 from Pao in March for its defense costs.
One prior California Supreme Court ruling indicated that expert witness costs could not be reimbursed by plaintiffs unless they acted in bad faith. Kleiner's expert witness costs came out to $864,680.
Judge Harold Kahn wrote in his tentative ruling that because Kleiner Perkins has greater economic resources than Pao, and much of its fund seeking related to witness costs, the settlement offer would have to be scaled down.
Both sides' attorneys planned to meet today to discuss the details.
