Deferred Sax breach notice examined

Hacker attack. Security alert, system hacked, internet cyber attack concept with red broken padlock, cybersecurity. Compromised password.

Cybernews reports that U.S. accounting firm Sax has informed more than 228,000 individuals that their data had been compromised in a July 2024 breach only this month.

Despite immediately implementing measures to secure its systems and commencing a probe into the incident alongside external cybersecurity experts, Sax, which caters to businesses and high-net-worth individuals, took almost 18 months to complete the investigation, raising the possibility of data exploitation.

However, such abuse has been dismissed by the New Jersey-based company, which will be providing free credit and dark web monitoring services, as well as credit protection and identity restoration services to all affected individuals for a year.

"We emphasize that we have no evidence of any actual or attempted misuse of this information," said Sax in the delayed breach notice filed with the Office of the Maine Attorney General.
