DDoS attack almost crashes children’s hospital website

Share

Boston Children's Hospital's website almost went down earlier this week in what appears to be a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.

Although officials haven't confirmed whether the attack was a DDoS scheme, they did say that attackers hit the hospital's website with large attacks that were designed to take the site down with overwhelming traffic.

The site withstood the traffic, however, and no patient information or internal systems were compromised, according to The Boston Globe.

Hospitals have been targeted in hundreds of attacks that usually affect either patients' or workers' information. Earlier this month, a Pittsburgh hospital suffered a breach that impacted up to 27,000 employees' personal information and led to fraudulent tax returns being filed in the victims' names.
