Cyberattack disclosed by Australian insurer Prosura

Plain code with the word "cyberattack" in red.

Australia-based rental car insurance firm Prosura had its internal IT systems compromised in a cyberattack identified on Saturday, prompting unauthorized customer data access and fraudulent email delivery, reports The Cyber Express.

Immediate action has been taken to take down key services, including those for policy purchases, claim submissions, and policy administration, according to Prosura, which has noted an ongoing investigation into the intrusion. Prosura has also called on customers, whose names, email addresses, phone numbers, countries of residence, travel destinations, and other policy details may have been impacted, to be wary of emails referencing the cyberattack that lure them into communicating with an external email address.

"We are taking this incident extremely seriously. We will work with specialist cybersecurity experts to investigate what happened, secure our systems, and restore services safely," said Prosura, which emphasized the continued validity of active policies despite the disruption.
