Cyberattack against CBO contained, director says

The Congressional Budget Office was noted by its director Phillip Swagel to have successfully expelled threat actors from its systems following an advanced cyberattack two weeks ago, POLITICO reports.

Operations of the CBO have returned to normal amid an ongoing investigation into the incident, said Swagel in a hearing before the House Budget Committee. However, updates on the nature of the attack and the measures that could bolster CBO systems' security will be provided "in a closed door setting," so as not to impede remediation activities, according to Swagel. Swagel's statements come after House Budget Committee Chair Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, lauded CBO's efforts to manage the intrusion.

"They notified everybody, and all hands were on deck to address it, remediate it, and make sure that no further information was breached. I thought they handled that responsibly and there was a great sense of urgency and concern, which is what I would expect," said Arrington.
