The accounting and tax firm Lafler, Moore, Connerty & Webb reported to the California Attorney General that the company's computer system was accessed by an unauthorized person resulting compromising its stored W-2 information.
The illegal access was noticed on March 11 when the Roseville, Calif.-based firm said an employee saw the cursor on his computer acting oddly. The computer was taken offline and after an investigation by a forensic data company it was determined that a breach had occurred. The firm believes its system was illegally accessed starting on January 27 with a myriad of W-2 information having been taken.
The data compromised includes name, gender, date of birth, telephone number, address, Social Security number, all employment (W-2) information, and direct deposit bank account information including account number(s) and routing information. The hacker also had access to any other document provided to the firm, but it is not a certainly it was taken.
No information on how the system was accessed was available.
