Atlas Air dismisses Everest ransomware attack claims

Major U.S. cargo airline Atlas Air has denied that its systems have been compromised after the Everest ransomware operation alleged to have pilfered 1.2 TB of sensitive technical information, including Boeing aircraft data, reports Cybernews.

Analysis of screenshots of the purportedly stolen Atlas Air data showed aircraft maintenance and repair reports, repair and logistics documents, and internal operational corporate files, according to Cybernews researchers, who also observed a screenshot with a suspicious mention of Malaysia Airlines that had no direct relationship with Atlas Air. Everest was also observed to have later claimed an attack against U.S. aerospace firm Tsunami Tsolutions, with screenshots revealing similar information as those allegedly exfiltrated from Atlas Air.

"This could've been one larger attack that targeted both Atlas Air and Tsunami Tsolutions, to gain more leverage in the ransom negotiations. However, at this point, it is not clear which company may have been the weak link," said researchers.
