A libertarian website's server was hacked yesterday after the start of its fundraising drive.
Foreign attackers allegedly took down Antiwar.com early Wednesday morning, according to the website. Antiwar.com devotes itself to “non-interventionism” and dedicates itself to libertarian principles and news.
The group suggested that the fundraising drive had something to do with the timing of the hack and directed blame at the National Security Agency. Later, however, “foreign hackers” were attributed to the attack without further elaboration.
Although the site went down during a fundraiser, the group's donation and front page remained unaffected because of their location on a separate, secured server. In response to the attack, Google issued a warning to site visitors, saying their computers could be subjected to malware if they clicked through.
The site is now completely accessible and free of malware.
