Silicon Angle reports that Anthropic has announced the formation of the Anthropic Institute, a new business unit dedicated to studying the potential risks associated with artificial intelligence.The Anthropic Institute consolidates three existing teams: Frontier Red Team, focused on AI cybersecurity risks and vulnerability testing; Societal Impacts, which gathers data on user interaction with AI like Claude and studies autonomous task performance; and Economic Research, responsible for analyzing the economic impact of AI and publishing the Economic Index report. The company is also bolstering the Institute's staff by hiring experts like Matt Botvinick from Google DeepMind, Zoë Hitzig from OpenAI, and economics professor Anton Korinek. The Institute aims to predict future AI progress and its interaction with the legal system.In parallel, Anthropic is expanding its Public Policy team, led by Sarah Heck, with plans to open an office in Washington, D.C.
